Inside Besa’s Brand Evolution
From community canned wine to Love Island’s Spin the Botella, and now an 8% vodka + soda in the UK, this is the evolution of Besa.
It started with a simple idea: make drinking easier, not harder
Besa started as canned wine. Not because the world needed another wine brand, but because nights out, house parties, and festivals were already happening in a way the drinks industry had not caught up with.
People wanted something cold, portable, good tasting, and ready to go. So we built exactly that. Canned wine made for busy, active, social lifestyles. A format that actually fits how people drink today. And it was not just about convenience. Our cans used less energy to produce and less to break down than glass bottles. A smaller footprint from production through to disposal.
Better for you, better for the planet, and built with intention. No added sugar. Low sulfites. Nothing unnecessary. Besa was born to keep the added sh*t out.
The product was never the full story. Very early on, Besa started building experiences around the drink instead of just marketing it. That is where Spin the Besa came from. A drinking game built for connection. Part truth or dare, part spin the bottle, part chaos, part conversation starter and ice breaker. It was designed for one thing only: to make the night better than it would have been without it.
Besa and Spin the Besa became the reason people gathered in the first place. Then it left the room and entered pop culture. Spin the Besa evolved into something bigger.
A custom version was developed for Love Island.
It became Spin the Botella and went on screen. It appeared across formats including Love Island and other iterations of the show, with islanders actually playing it inside the villa.
It was no longer just a brand game. It was part of the moment.
From canned wine to full RTD
Besa did not stay in one category for long. Canned wine became wine seltzers. Wine seltzers became a broader ready to drink collection. And that direction became the core of the brand. RTD is not a pivot for Besa. It is the category that actually matches how people drink. Fast, social, flexible, and flavour-led. Everything we build now sits inside that reality.
Love Island was not just a campaign
At one point, Besa created a limited edition passionfruit hard seltzer that appeared on Love Island Australia. That mattered because it proved something simple.
This was not just a product that lived in retail.
It could exist inside culture, on screen, in real time, as part of entertainment people were already watching.
The UK launch changed everything
The UK is the next chapter. And with a new market came a reset in product thinking. This is not a wine-led brand entering a new country. This is an RTD-first brand stepping in properly.
The result is an 8% ABV vodka and soda.
Zero grams added sugar. Zero carbs. Low calorie. 250ml can.
A stronger product. Bolder format. Clearer identity.
Dropping “mi vino”
As the product evolved, the brand language had to follow. Besa “mi vino” belonged to an earlier chapter. One rooted in wine and early experimentation.
The new chapter is simpler.
Just Besa.
One name. One category direction. One global RTD identity.
Besa means “kiss” because it’s so good you could kiss it.
Where it goes next
Besa is not a drink sitting on a shelf waiting to be discovered.
It is a brand that moves through culture.
From canned wine to vodka soda. From Spin the Besa to Spin the Botella. From retail to reality TV. From local moments to global scale.
